Mobile advertising revenues in the United States are expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 81.2%, from $160 million in 2008 to $3.1 billion in 2013, according to a new study from The Kelsey Group.
Concurrently, mobile local search advertising will grow 130.5% to $1.3 billion from $20 million, according to the firm.
“As mobile data consumption rises, we expect local marketing to be a big winner,” said Michael Boland, program director, Mobile Local Media at The Kelsey Group. “There is a strong correlation between local search and the mobile use case, which will cause a good portion of the ongoing mobile application boom to focus on local.”
The study also predicts the percentage of mobile searches that have a local focus will increase from 28% last year to 35% in 2013.
