Motorola buys DRM vendor SecureM
From: CED Magazine
Motorola has struck a deal to buy SecureM, which is a developer of software-based digital rights management and security systems for IP video distribution and management. While financial terms of the agreement weren’t available, Motorola said the deal would close in the first quarter of this year once it passed the customary closing conditions. Once the deal is finalized, SecureM, which operators under the name of SecureMedia, will become a part of Motorola’s Home & Network Mobility division.
In November, The Wall Street Journal reported that Motorola was trying to sell the Home & Network Mobility division for $4.5 billion, with J.P Morgan Chase and Goldman Sachs Group serving as advisers.
SecureMedia develops and markets software systems for securing the distribution of digital entertainment over multiple platforms to multiple devices, including set-top boxes, wireless handsets, PCs and portable entertainment devices. SecureMedia’s Encryptonite One system supplies end-to-end security for content in managed IP, mobile, over-the-top and hybrid environments. With this acquisition, Motorola will be able to offer both stand-alone and integrated software security solutions to IP video customers.
