Alliances: VeriSign, nonprofit partner for health IT solution

VeriSign Inc. said it partnered with CAQH, a nonprofit alliance of health plans and trade associations, to conduct a pilot program to demonstrate secure authentication for health IT interoperability. The six-month pilot will build on a set of operating rules created by the CAQH Committee on Operating Rules for Information Exchange (CORE). CORE will use the VeriSign Public Key Infrastructure to create a prototype community that identifies best practices and test data encryption operating rules for safely transmitting patient administrative information between providers, payers and health care vendors, said the companies.
Verizon Wireless selected Rohde & Schwarz as a provider of testing solutions for the certification of devices that will be used on its nationwide 4G LTE network. Rohde & Schwarz will include system simulators, channel simulators and software automation.
Verizon Wireless and Actsoft Inc. announced a joint marketing agreement that calls for Actsoft’s GPS-based business management applications to be available to Verizon’s customers. Actsoft’s solutions include a Web-based GPS tracking and timekeeping application, order entry dispatch, wireless forms, customized alerts and reporting capabilities, and a turnkey solution that provides functions from work order management to vehicle engine monitoring.
Alcatel-Lucent and Sequans announced a collaboration agreement that calls for the companies to work together on LTE solutions for TD-LTE networks in Asia and Europe. The first product of the collaboration will be the Sequans 2.6 GHz USB dongle that will be available for operator trials this year.
The Mobile Marketing Association said Alcatel-Lucent joined MMA’s Premium Membership tier, which is reserved for a limited number of companies that have substantial influence in the industry.
Anritsu Corp. said it has been working with several companies to test their products and it conducted joint demonstrations this week at Mobile World Congress. The company conducted a joint demonstration with Samsung Electronics. Anritsu and Samsung have been jointly testing Samsung’s LTE USB modem. Anritsu also demonstrated its LTE tester using LG Electronics’ LTE USB modem. Anritsu has been working with LG as a primary test vendor. Anritsu also announced its MD8480C Signaling Tester with Dual-Carrier HSPA Evolution support has been chosen by Sierra Wireless to demonstrate the performance of its AirCard 312U mobile broadband modem at MWC.
DeviceAnywhere has partnered with Latin American operator Vivo to launch the Vivo Virtual Developer Lab, which the companies said will simplify testing and monitoring of content and services for developers worldwide. The lab will allow developers to remotely interact with local handsets, including performing functions such as pressing buttons, rotating the handset, listening to ringtones and sounds, playing videos, accessing the Internet and viewing LCD displays.
The Israel Mobile Association and Perfecto Mobile, which provides remote access and automated testing solutions for mobile devices, announced a partnership to provide Web access to mobile handsets currently being tested in IMA’s Innovation Lab. Under the agreement, the IMA Innovation Lab will host the Perfecto Mobile Handset Cloud system to enable Web access to available and pre-market mobile devices being tested in the lab. Developers will be able to test their applications on a variety of devices.
Russian carrier Mobile TeleSystems selected Vantrix for its mobile and Web video optimization and delivery via MTS’s Omelet.ru online and mobile content platform. MTS will use Vantrix’s Media Broadcaster to address the growing demand for video content, said the companies.
Novatel Wireless said CAT, a CDMA operator in Thailand, is launching its MiFi 2220 Intelligent Mobile Hotspot. The MiFi platform creates a personal cloud of high-speed Internet connectivity that can be shared between multiple users and up to five Wi-Fi devices such as laptops, cameras, gaming devices and multimedia players.
Numerex selected Tekelec’s short message service technology to give its customers a new option for monitoring and managing their assets remotely. Tekelec’s SMS capabilities will be integrated into Numerex’s M2M message delivery platform.
PacketVideo said it is working with mobile entertainment company Millmo to launch a new eBook application for Android handsets. The app is based on PacketVideo’s SDC DRM technology and will allow users to purchase electronic books from millmo.jp Comic Store and millmo.jp Photo Store on their Android handset. The companies hope to launch the player in the Japanese market this spring. PacketVideo also announced a partnership with Telus to power an over-the-air, DRM-free music for mobile subscribers in Canada. The deal allows Telus users to play music purchased from the Telus Music shop on any of their digital music-enable devices.
Sierra Wireless said Fujitsu chose it to provide integrated wireless connectivity for its Lifebook notebook computers. Sierra also said Funkwerk Enterprise Communications has chosen its AirPrime MC8790 HSPA Embedded Module to provide high-speed mobile broadband connectivity to the Funkwerk bintec RS120wu router.
Sprint Nextel and RealNetworks announced an agreement to streamline the various music-related offerings available to Sprint phones into a unified, user-friendly digital music storefront. The agreement covers ringtones, ringback tones and full-track music.
TeleCommunication Systems Inc. and Tele Atlas said they have signed a global agreement that calls for TCS to gain access to Tele Atlas’ comprehensive global maps to support its range of wireless offerings. The companies have collaborated since 1999 on location-enhanced applications, including location-based wireless and Voice over Internet Protocol Enhanced 911 services and commercial location applications. TCS also announced a product win with Sony Ericsson, which chose its Gokivo Navigator to power turn-by-turn navigation on the Sony Ericsson Aspen smartphone. The phone will be available with the Gokivo Navigator application pre-loaded.
Texas Instruments chose Synaptics Inc.’s ClearPad Solution for its OMAP 4 processor-based development platform, the Blaze Mobile Development Platform. The Blaze MDP uses dual displays, each supported by a ClearPad high-resolution capacitive touchscreen solution with advanced gesturing capability. TI also announced it has been working closely with Teleca to extend the Android platform to support dual displays.
