Catching up with QNX at the Embedded Systems Conference in San Jose, CA, RCR Unplugged delved into what the soon-to-be-signed-and-sealed acquisition of the company by RIM would mean for both firms.
Although it’s still early days and QNX is obviously cautious about spilling the beans before the acquisition actually goes through, RCR Unplugged was able to glean that the possibilities between the two firms were apparently “endless.”
QNX, which makes realtime operating system software and services, has offerings for most anything and everything including car infotainment systems, industrial applications, defense systems, medical devices and more.
The deal is widely expected to go through within the next couple of weeks and QNX has been assured RIM plans to keep running it as a standalone company.
Nevertheless, a QNX executive told Unplugged there was certainly a role Blackberry could play vis-a- vis car infotainment systems, and that QNX could also offer some compelling offerings in terms of software for Blackberry devices.
Decisions, we’re told, haven’t really been made yet, but watch this space and we’ll bring you updates as we get them.
