Verizon Wireless to launch Kin twins May 6

Just short of a month after being unveiled by Microsoft Corp. – at of all places a bar, and before noon – Verizon Wireless announced the imminent availability and pricing for the social-media focused Kin One and Kin Two devices.
The carrier, which has exclusive rights to the devices, said the Kin One and Kin two devices would be available beginning May 6 for $50 and $100 respectively after all rebates and a two-year contract. Those plans are roughly in line with the carrier’s messaging devices and undercut the prices of its traditional smartphone line up.
Pricing plans for the devices will follow Verizon Wireless’ already established smartphone model, which requires customers to add a $30 per month data package to any of the carrier’s voice packages. Those packages start at $40 per month, though customers looking to add unlimited messaging – and with the market focus of these devices, that should be just about all of them – will be looking at plans starting at $60 per month, or $90 when the mandatory data package is included.
