It may be time for Chinese firm Huawei to deliver a bit of a smackdown to Apple’s iPad, in the form of its new SmaKit S7 tablet running Android 2.1.
RCR had a chance to see the SmaKit S7 in action at this year’s CommunicAsia event in Singapore, filming a hands on video for Unplugged readers.
The seven inch beauty of a tablet comes with 800 x 480 resolution on its touchscreen, with a front-facing camera, support for 3G and Wi-Fi 802.11n, Bluetooth, 3.5mm earphone socket, USB port and a kick stand so it can be propped up on a desk.
The tablet feels robust and seems to be made of good quality materials, and should be priced rather a lot cheaper than the iPad, with Huawei noting it’s currently in talks with telcos to distribute the tablet, starting with Europe.
The tablet can also be used as a phone and because it has quadband capabilities built-in, it should also eventually make its way to the US.
