Alliances: Renesas teams with Nokia; Wataniya chooses Astellia solution; and more

Nokia Corp. (NOK) and Renesas Electronics Corp. formed a strategic business alliance that calls for Renesas to acquire Nokia’s wireless modem business for about $200 million. The alliance also calls for long-term joint research cooperation on future radio technologies.
ComScore Inc. (SCOR) acquired the products division of Nexius Inc., which provides network analysis solutions. The acquisition strenthen’s ComScore’s position in the mobile market by expanding its product offerings targeted at mobile operators.
DecaWave, a fables semiconductor company, said Korean electronics company LG made an investment in the company. The investment follows a module and sales agreement six months ago between DecaWave and LG Innotek, the electronics component subsidiary of LG.
Wataniya Telecom, a mobile operator in Kuwait, chose Astellia to provide its VIP Care Solution to provide network performance monitoring for the carrier’s highly valued customers. The solution allows the carrier to monitor variables like access speed, service availability and seamless coverage via individual subscriber reports.
Trustive, a Wi-Fi Internet access provider in Europe, partnered with Aicent Inc. to give Trustive customers access to thousands of Wi-Fi hotspots, including a network of 70,000 Wi-Fi hot spots in China and Narita International Airport in Japan.
Red Bend Software said it won contracts with NTT DoCoMo and SoftBank to include its vRapid Mobile and vDirect Mobile software on several of the manufacturers’ mobile phones. The software allows for over-the-air firmware updates. Twelve new phones introduced by DoCoMo include Red Bend’s technology, while SoftBank is including Red Bend’s software on 10 of its latest models.
Brightpoint Inc. (CELL) said it entered a distribution agreement with Lenovo Inc. that calls for Brightpoint to purchase and sell Lenovo products, including the Idea and ThinkPad family of products, in the United States.
