Nokia has been having a tough time of late, copping a hiding from all quarters; losing prototypes, slipping market share, a failing app market and a besieged CEO. Indeed, there has hardly been much positive news at all to report on the Nokia front. Until today that is.
On Thursday came news that the flagship Nokia N8 was available for pre order in Italy for a cool €469 ($612 US) with availability set for September.
For those who haven’t kept abreast of news coming out of Espoo, the N8 is the device Nokia is pinning its hopes on to revive its currently flagging smartphone business, which has been eaten away by the likes of the iPhone and Google’s Android army.
By all accounts, the N8 with its 16 GB of internal memory, 12 megapixel camera, HD video recording and 3.5 inch capacitive OLED screen (640 x 360) pixels has the hardware to impress the casual observer.
Whether it turns out to be Nokia’s great savior, however, remains to be seen, but considering it’s still running the venerable old Symbian OS one could be forgiven for thinking the N8 was just another case of Nokia putting lipstick on a pig.
