Samsung gets 4G LTE handset FCC approved

.
Samsung is first in line when it comes to federal regulations on approved 4G LTE handsets, with the FCC giving the OK to an upcoming device known as the Samsung R900.
Taken up to a secret – well, maybe not so secret – phone lab in Columbia, Md. the FCC picked the phone apart and put it through the testing wringer to make sure everything fitted in with the FCC’s wireless regulations.

Sprint is the only major US carrier already using 4G, but is doing so in the Wimax flavor, whereas rival Verizon plans to be the first major N. American carrier to launch LTE 4G services nationwide.
Having said that, Samsung’s 4G LTE device looks as if it could be headed over to prepaid wireless carrier MetroPCS, with mobile tech site Phone Scoop noting the spectrum used in the FCC tests corresponds to that used by the carrier, which has already committed to releasing LTE handsets by the end of 2010.
It’s believed that 4G technology will offer users vastly improved data speeds, with download rates of at least three Mbps, ten times higher than speeds on 3G.
Samsung’s device apparently also sports Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and 3G EVDO Rev-A connectivity.
