Nokia Corp. continued its expansion outside of its traditional device sphere announcing plans to acquire U.S.-based mobile analytics firm Motally Inc.
Nokia said Motally’s in-application tracking and reporting service will be adapted for Qt, Symbian, Meego and Java developers. Nokia also said it will continue to support Motally’s existing customer base.
Nokia acquired the Qt platform when it purchased Trolltech ASA in early 2008 for $153 million, while its Meego platform was formed earlier this year through an agreement with Intel Corp.
“The acquisition underpins Nokia’s drive to deliver in-application and mobile web browsing analytics to Ovi’s growing, global eco-system of developers and publishers, enabling partners to better connect with their customers and optimize and monetize their offering,” said Marco Argenti, VP of media at Nokia, in a statement.
Nokia announced earlier this week plans to re-launch its Comes with Music offering, which has since its launch two years ago has yet to find a significant audience.
Financial terms of the deal for privately-held Motally were not released. The company currently employs eight people, with the transaction expected to close during the third quarter.
