As wireless operators look for new revenue streams, SensorLogic is hoping to help them along the way. The Boston-based company offers a platform as a service solution that helps businesses track their assets without having to commit to using a specific network or device.
Businesses want to find ways to future-proof their how they manage their assets because new devices and new applications continually come on the market, said CEO Mike Campbell. Products continually evolve and improve. SensorLogic offers wireless operators, systems integrators and large businesses a service delivery platform that doesn’t force the enterprise to commit to a specific device or network because it operates as a cloud-based platform. The company is focusing on mobile resource management to track fleets so businesses know where their vehicles are in the field; asset-tracking for cargo and upcoming opportunities in telemedicine.
Campbell sees large opportunities in the home health monitoring space. An end user monitoring a disease, for example, can use whatever device or application he chooses to take a reading, send that information into the hospital via his broadband or wireless network. That information is sent to a server at the hospital, where physicians, insurance companies and the patient all can retrieve different pieces of that information. Using a platform-as-a-service approach, the data can be parsed so all those different people involved can see what they have permission to see.
When M2M assets are hard-coded, it can be difficult to upgrade to new solutions because all new equipment might be needed. “Since our platform is middleware it can normalize data so it can be consumed,” as new devices and applications come on the market, Campbell explained.
Campbell also sees opportunities in the insurance industry as telemetry applications track driving patterns. Some insurance companies already are offering discounts to drivers who agree to be monitored via M2M technology.
