Netflix arrives late, but feature packed, on the iPhone

Netflix Inc.(NFLX) has finally released an app for the iPhone and iPod Touch that allows subscribers to stream TV episodes and movies on their device.
After sitting on the sidelines rather noticeably for years, the company made its first major mobile step with an app for Apple Inc.’s (AAPL) iPad.
With this latest move, Netflix’s streaming service, which users have enjoyed for years on personal computers and gaming consoles, is now finally available across all of Apple’s iOS-powered devices. Netflix first announced plans to close the Apple loop with an app for the iPhone and iPod Touch back in June at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference where the iPhone was formally introduced.
“Apple has changed the game for mobile devices,” co-founder and CEO Reed Hastings said in a prepared statement. “We’re excited that our members can now carry Netflix around in their pockets and instantly watch movies and TV shows streamed from Netflix right to their iPhone or iPod touch.”
The mobile streaming service, which works over Wi-Fi and 3G networks, is available to all Netflix subscribers and plans start at $9 a month.
