Intel and Dell show off Inspiron Duo tablet/netbook hybrid

Drawing audible ooh’s and ahh’s from the crowds in the Moscone Auditorium in San Francisco today, Intel unveiled a Dell 10″ tablet with a built-in but initially concealed keyboard, running Windows 7 Premium.

The tablet, dubbed the Dell Inspiron Duo looked a little chunky in netbook form, but wowed the audience as the hidden keyboard was whipped out from underneath, allowing the screen to twist around into the casing to form – for all intents and purposes – a fully-fledged netbook.

Dave Zavelson, a precision marketing manager at Dell, showing the device off on stage proclaimed the product to be  “the world’s most powerful 10 inch tablet,” running on an Intel dual core Atom processor.

Running the Microsoft Windows 7 operating system most people are accustomed to on their PCs, Zavelson noted the device was “great for providing the productivity you need to have, but allows you to kick back and relax too.”

No further details were provided, but Zavelson noted the tablet would be shipping by the end of 2010.
