Partnerships: NII chooses SmartTrust; Azimuth supplies test equipment to DT; and more

NII Holdings Inc., which operates under the Nextel brand in Latin America, has selected SmartTrust to provide advanced OMA Device Management and Firmware Over the Air capabilities for NII’s 3G network. SmartTrust’s SmartProvisioning system allows operators to manage delivery of new applications when subscribers sign up for service and to send upgrades to subscriber handsets.
Deutsche Telekom selected Azimuth Systems Inc. to provide its ACE MX MIMO channel emulator to provide broadband testing. The carrier will use the ACE MX product in its 2×2 bidirectional configuration for wide-ranging eNodeB LTE testing including intra-RAT and inter-RAT handovers. The product also will be used for 2G/3G base station testing, terminal testing and network optimization.
Telefonica Espana chose Openwave’s Integra traffic mediation and policy management solution to help it manage, monitor and monetize mobile traffic. The carrier is upgrading to Integra from Openwave’s Mobile Access Gateway to accommodate increases in mobile data traffic.
Ontology Systems said its OSS/CAD semantic application has been chosen by Mobile Broadband Network Ltd. to aggregate data across NMS and OSS systems from both MBNL’s parent operators. The goal is to find inconsistent or miskeyed lub configuration data in the network and underlying source systems and to find configurations that do not comply with standard network designs inconsistencies between the network and then inventory systems.
Vringo Inc. announced a carrier partnership with StarHub in Singapore that calls for Vringo provide its ringtone service to be co-branded by StarHub. The service includes Vringo’s mobile app experience and a platform offering Web and WAP interfaces that allow customers to enjoy video ringtones.
National Geographic said it partnered with location-based social game company SCVNGR to create an interactive mobile experience based on National Geographic-themed challenges. The experience allows visitors at National Geographic Museum to use cameras or smartphones to take a ‘photo safari trek’ that sends them to specific locations to take photographs, solve trivia challenges, earn points and unlock rewards.
Samsung announced a partnership with Netbiscuits to provide Netbiscuits’ premium customers with apps made for Samsung’s new mobile operating system ‘bada,’ which runs on smartphones like Samsung’s Wave S8500. The deal allows Netbiscuits’ customers to manage mobile sites and apps for multiple platforms using a single, cloud-based software system.
Movius Interactive Corp. said Iraq’s Asiacell chose it to provide its missed call services for the carrier’s customers. The service tells a subscriber if they have missed a call while their phone was out of coverage or turned off. The deal also provides customers with the company’s Call Back Now service, that alerts a customer whose call has not gone through that the call recipient is now available to receive a call.
The Morey Corp. said it extended its outsourced manufacturing partnership with Networkfleet Inc., which provides wireless fleet management services. In addition to providing the company’s telematics-based fleet management hardware services, the company also will provide product design and fulfillment responsibilities.
Telus chose Acision’s advanced messaging solution under a multi-year agreement for use across the carrier’s mobile networks. Telus said the solution will help it cope with increasing usage of SMS services and address new market opportunities by providing a high-value messaging service to its customers.
ADC Telecom said it expanded its agreement with Graybar, a distributor of electrical, communications and data networking products. The agreement allows Graybar to distribute ADC’s InterReach Fusion distributed antenna system products.
Murata Electronics North America entered a distributor agreement with Sager Electronics. In addition to expanding Murata’s reach into industrial and health care markets, the companies said the agreement also allows them to address newer technologies like hybrid crystals and polymer capacitors.
First Data Corp. and SK C&C USA announced a strategic global partnership to provide mobile commerce services to customers in the United States. According to the agreement, SK C&C will deliver a complete set of secure mobile commerce services to First Data’s financial institutions and merchant customers.
