SAN FRANCISCO – Looking to prime the pump for its eventual LTE network launch scheduled to begin next year, AT&T Mobility said it will begin offering a wireless modem from LG Electronics Co. Ltd. that will be upgradeable to LTE compatibility with a software upgrade.
The device, dubbed the AT&T USBConnect Adrenaline, will roll out with the ability to work with AT&T Mobility’s HSPA network, feature an internal antenna, “plug-and-play functionality and support for “multiple” operating systems. The device is set to sell for $50 with a two-year contract and required data package.
AT&T Mobility also announced the USBConnect Shockwave wireless modem from Sierra Wireless Inc. that is compatible with the carrier’s current HSPA network as well as the roll out of its HSPA+ enhancements. The Shockwave will be available for free with a two-year contract and required data plan.
Finally, AT&T Mobility said it will offer the USBConnect 900 wireless modem from Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. for its prepaid DataConnect Pass data plans. The device will retail for $80 without a contract.
