LightSquared announced the formation of an Emergency Rapid Response Communications Team that will be available to deploy to emergency and disaster locations throughout North America. The team will be able to provide on-call mobile satellite communications services, personnel and equipment for emergency support to first responders.
RadiSys Corp. announced a security gateway targeted for LTE deployments. The RadiSys LTE SEG is a 3GPP Network Domain Security-compliant security gateway that enables high performance firewall and IPsec tunneling in a single carrier grade solution, said the company.
GOGII, which created the textPlus application that allows for free group texting, said it signed an agreement with MetroPCS Communications Inc. to offer its free group text functionality to MetroPCS customers. The company said the agreement marks its first carrier direct connection.
Roamware Inc. announced a new service that lets operators offer an additional number to existing subscribers temporarily without having to issue an additional SIM card. The Temporary Number Service is useful for subscribers who need two separate numbers in situations when they don’t want to publically distribute their primary number.
Verizon Wireless said the Kindle reading experience is now available on many Android devices running on its network and will be available on more devices soon. The carrier noted the Kindle store application is available on the Samsung Fascinate as well as Motorola’s DROID 2 and DROID X models.

The product is designed to improve over-the-air reliability and security with application fingerprinting technology, spectrum analysis and wireless intrusion prevention.
Alcatel-Lucent said it has been chosen by Telus to provide its Digital Media Store to support the carrier’s ringtone, image and mobile game service offerings. The DMS service is an end-to-end managed and hosted service that provides Telus with a digital storefront for its multimedia offerings, said the company.
Verizon wireless retailer A Wireless said it acquired eight store-in-store kiosks housed in P.C. Richard & Son locations. The kiosks are the first store-in-store kiosks for A Wireless, said the company.
