Online job report: Mobile programmers in demand

There is no slowdown in the demand for mobile application programmers, according to the most recent online jobs report from Elance, an online jobsite that connects businesses with freelancers.
The company said iPhone programmers moved up five positions in the third quarter, breaking into the top 20. Programmers for Research In Motion Ltd.s’ BlackBerry operating system jumped 11 spots to No. 89, while Google Inc. Android programmers saw a 61% increase in demand.
In the ongoing battle between HTML5 and Flash, Flash dropped a spot to No. 11 in the skills set, but HTML5 broke into the list at No. 70. (HTML is No. 4 on the list of desired skill sets.)
In the third quarter, Elance said employers posted 98,032 new jobs and online professionals earned more than $24 million working on Elance. The IT and creative segments remain the most wanted, but marketing was the fastest-growing segment.
Drilling down into specific IT skills in demand, HTML ranked No. 2; Flash ranked No. 6; the iPhone ranked No. 8; the iPad ranked No. 14; Facebook ranked No. 16; Android ranked No. 17; Java ranked No. 19; HTML5 ranked No. 23; Linux ranked No. 31 and BlackBerry ranked No. 32. Android jumped eight spots from the second quarter.
