Another day, another iPhone-coming-to-Verizon Wireless rumor. It turns out the nation’s largest carrier might have already agreed to a deal similar to the one Apple Inc. first offered the carrier more than three years ago.
Kaufman Bros. analyst Shaw Wu says Apple got the terms it wanted from Verizon for its version of the iPhone, which is expected to be released early next year.
Wu told clients that he is “picking up that iPhone economics to Apple are likely to be favorable, similar to that offered by AT&T,” according to CNN. Wu says
“This is important, as many, including ourselves, have been concerned that Verizon Wireless iPhone economics could be less favorable given the strength of Android and higher cost of components, particularly those associated with CDMA,” Wu wrote.
“Last but not least, we are hearing that Verizon does not want iPhone, the hottest selling smart phone, available on T-Mobile USA and/or Sprint and may be willing to pay for exclusivity to itself and AT&T,” he concluded, citing sources within the industry and supply channel.
Has Verizon already signed an AT&T-like deal for the iPhone?
