Nokia plans 800 layoffs in early 2011

Nokia Corp. (NOK) has announced plans to layoff about 800 workers in Finland.
The job cuts, which begin next month, will carry severance packages worth 5-15 months salary, according to a company statement sent to Reuters. Nokia hopes some of the affected workers will be able to relocate elsewhere within the company, but the cuts also come on the heels of 1,800 job cuts worldwide in October.
As Nokia continues to trim down its workforce, the world’s largest phone manufacturer is also delaying yet another smart phone. This time, shipments of the Symbian-based E7 will be postponed until early next year. Only a few markets were supposed to receive E7s this year, a Nokia spokeswoman told Bloomberg, but it marks another delay for a high-end smart phone from Nokia.
