Chunghwa Telecom, China Mobile to cooperate in C-RAN R&D and testing

Taiwan-based Chunghwa Telecom (CHT) have announced that its Telecommunication Laboratories and China Mobile’s Research Institute signed an MOU for two-year cooperation in R&D and technological trials of C-Radio Access Network (C-RAN) on December 14 in Beijing, China.
With “C” standing for centralized processing, collaborative radio and real-time cloud computing infrastructure, C-RAN is integrated management of base frequencies sent and received by base stations of different standards to minimize total cost and energy consumption as well as maximize efficiency, CHT said, adding C-RAN is not mature yet in terms of technological development.
CHT and the China-based telecom carrier will separately undertake research and testing and exchange results, CHT noted.
