T-Mobile says its network is fastest (if you don't count VZW LTE)

In the race for the fastest wireless network, T-Mobile USA Inc. (DTEGY) said it won a recent national drive test by a leading third-party research team conducted during the last five months. However, the test concluded in November, before Verizon Wireless (VZ) launched its LTE service.
T-Mobile said the test concluded it delivers the fastest wireless data performance in the top 100 U.S. markets based on downloaded and uploaded files to test data transfer speeds on laptop data sticks for each of the major carriers. The company said it could not release the name of the research company, but also that it did not participate directly in the test nor did it dictate the methodology used. The company did say a Clearwire Corp. data stick was included in the testing.
“2010 was a banner year for T-Mobile’s network expansion,” said Neville Ray, CTO for T-Mobile USA. “We have deployed fiber backhaul to our cell sites to deliver an industry leading mobile data experience on the latest T-Mobile smart phones and broadband devices. Today, we are delivering the fastest data performance in the top 100 U.S. markets on average, and it’s only going to get faster as we upgrade our network to offer 42Mbps capability in 2011.”
T-Mobile USA is taking on AT&T Mobility in a series of TV campaigns that claim T-Mobile’s network speed is superior to AT&T Mobility’s.
