Dec 23 (Reuters) – Dominant Mexican fixed-line telecoms operator Telmex and mobile phone operator Telcel have agreed a gradual reduction in interconnection charges with rival Telefonica Mexico from 2011 to 2014, Spain’s Telefonica said on Thursday.
Carlos Slim’s America Movil, which owns Telcel, consolidated Telmex, Mexico’s dominant fixed-line and Internet provider, under its umbrella in June to compete with Spain’s Telefonica across Latin America.
But the regional rivals agreed on Thursday to trim connection tariffs between fixed and cellular networks in Mexico to 0.95 Mexican pesos (7 U.S. cents) in 2011, to 0.86 MXN in 2012, 0.78 MXN in 2013 and 0.69 MXN (5 U.S. cents) in 2014.
