China Mobile revs up TD-LTE push

Following a trial at last year’s World Expo in Shanghai, China Mobile Communications Co. is planning to expand its technology choice for future 4G networks to six cities.
The next phase of tests, which was approved by China’s government last week, will put TD-LTE, or time division-long term evolution technology one step closer to commercial availability, according to China Daily.
While China Mobile hasn’t laid out a timetable yet, the trials will eventually come to the Chinese cities of Shanghai, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Xiamen. The world’s largest carrier is also trying to drum up interest and support for TD-LTE outside of China.
At least 15 trial networks have already been deployed in various countries and Aero2 has announced plans to build a commercial TD-LTE network in Poland this year.
China Mobile said ZTE Corp., Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd., Nokia Siemens Networks and Ericsson AB would all be participating in the next round of tests.
