BEIJING (Dow Jones)–China Mobile Ltd. (CHL) said Friday it will start large-scale testing of a domestically developed fourth-generation mobile communications technology, having received approval from regulators.
China Mobile, having developed a local Chinese 3G standard, is now working on a local 4G standard, which will allow even faster data transmission. The global 4G mobile standard is called Long Term Evolution, or LTE. China Mobile’s variation on the standard is called TD-LTE.
