Verizon Wireless goes for lucky 7 on new content deals

It seems only fitting that Verizon Wireless would announce seven new content deals as the Consumer Electronics Show winded down in Las Vegas. The lucky seven include Rhapsody, Bitbop, Gameloft, MOG, Slacker Radio, TuneWiki and Sling Media.
All of the deals mark either an extension of existing partnerships or the launch of new entertainment options on Verizon’s network.
Bitbop is the on-demand mobile TV and movie service from Fox Mobile Group, which was recently acquired by Jesta Group.
Gameloft will soon introduce “Let’s Golf! 2” on select 4G smart phones from Verizon Wireless. That means the game, which features multiplayer capabilities, won’t be coming until March at the earliest.
The on-demand music service MOG also inked a deal with the nation’s largest carrier to have its app preloaded on select 4G smart phones. MOG features a catalog of more than 10 million songs and users can gain unlimited access to the service for $10 a month.
Long-time partner Rhapsody has extended its deal with the carrier to bring its service to 4G devices and plans to take advantage of the the LTE network by offering high bitrate and Rhapsody TV.
Slacker Radio will be available on some of Verizon’s forthcoming 4G smart phones as well, giving users access to music, artist profiles, album reviews and cover art.
TuneWiki, which provides real-time subtitled lyrics to users as they listen to music stored on their device, will come on board as a pre-installed application on some 4G smart phones.
And finally, Sling Media Inc. has created a new subscription service that gives Verizon Wireless customers access to a Slingbox and the SlingPlayer application on their 4G LTE devices.
