Nordic telecom giant TeliaSonera said it has signed equipment contracts with Ericsson (ERIC) and Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. to deploy and expand its mobile network in Norway.
The deal calls for the deployment of a GSM/EDGE, W-CDMA/HSPA and LTE network that will cover 95% of the population with 3G services and 89% with 4G services by next year. Huawei was awarded the construction contract for the southern part of the country, while Ericsson will handle the network for the northern part.
Ericsson noted that the deal expands its current contract with TeliaSonera from LTE equipment to 2G and 3G.
Financial terms of the deal were not released.
TeliaSonera currently is the second largest operator in Norway with more than 1.6 million customers. The carrier offers LTE services in Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark and Estonia.
