Taipei, Jan. 12, 2011 (CENS)–The 2011 Taipei WiMAX Summit, held by Taiwan`s Ministry of Economic Affair officials on Jan. 10 at Grand Hotel in conjunction with week-long IEEE Session and WiMAX Forum Global Operator Summit, have drawn over 100 global WiMAX operators to the island, granting huge business opportunities to local WiMAX equipment makers.
Some heavyweight WiMAX operators, such as U.S.`s Clearwire, Japan`s UQ, Malaysia`s P1 and YTL, have been invited by MOEA officials to conduct procurement meetings with Taiwanese WiMAX device and component suppliers during the said events.
Local top-caliber enterprises, including MediaTek Inc., Gemtek Technology Co., Accton Technology Corp., Acer Inc., Quanta Computer Inc., Asustek Computer Inc. and Zyxel Communications Corp, all are likely to share slices of the business pie.
Noteworthily, IEEE Standard Association has hosted its working session in Taiwan for the second time since 2005, and is believed to rough out the next-generation WiMAX2 16m standards at the end of the meeting. Plus, the working session will probably reach a conclusion that WiMAX2, LTE (Long Term Evolution) and TD-LTE (Time Division LTE) will also be included in standard 4G technologies recognized by ITU (International Telecommunication Union).
