Android tops Apple iOS in ad impression share, Millennial Media reports

While Apple Inc. (AAPL) remains top dog in the device space, Google Inc.’s (GOOG) Android operating system continues to pull ahead in Millennial Media’s monthly mobile device report. Android shot past Apple’s OS on the Millennial ad network for the first time in December, Millennial announced. Android counted a 46% impression share, compared to Apple’s 32% share.
Android also generated more revenues by application in the fourth quarter, at 55%, compared with 39% for the Apple iOS, Millennial reported.
In the device segment, Apple’s iPhone holds the No. 1 spot, while the iPad checks in at No. 3. Research in Motion Ltd.’s (RIMM) BlackBerry Curve holds the No. 2 spot among devices.
Among manufacturers, Apple holds the No. 1 spot with a solid 21% market share, followed by Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., (SSNLF) which counts a 17% market share, and HTC Corp. (HTCFX) at No. 3, with nearly 16% market share.
Games remain the top application, while social networking is at No. 2 and music and entertainment comes in third.
Millennial’s information comes from advertising campaign and network data from its independent mobile advertising network, which it says is the largest in the United States.
