Synchronica | January 18, 2011 | Press Release

Highlights:

  • Claro Perú becomes the fifth América Móvil subsidiary to launch Claro Messenger IM solution
  • Synchronica has a group-wide framework agreement to deploy the service across all 17 América Móvil subsidiaries, targeting 217-million subscribers
  • High prepaid adoption and low Smartphone penetration in Perú makes Claro Messenger an important tool for churn reduction

Royal Tunbridge Wells, UK: January 19, 2011. – Claro Perú has become the fifth subsidiary of the América Móvil group to launch Claro Messenger, a mobile IM service powered by Synchronica’s hosted IMPS platform.

Synchronica is in the process of deploying this mobile IM solution across all 17 of América Móvil’s subsidiaries as part of a group-wide framework agreement which was signed earlier this year. The agreement provides Synchronica with a growing recurring revenue stream to one of the largest and most important mobile markets worldwide. Once fully-delivered, all 217-million América Móvil customers will be able to subscribe to Claro Messenger.

Mobile IM as a consumer solution, in tandem with an operator-provided IM community, enriches the VAS portfolio and reduces churn, because users tend to become highly dependent on their IM identity, and do not want to lose this by moving to another network operator. Churn reduction measures are popular where mobile network operators have a high proportion of prepaid users.

According to the ITU Statistics Database, prepaid tariff plans are highly popular in Perú because of their perceived low cost. Smartphone ownership accounts for just 2 percent of the country’s general urban population.

Claro Perú subscribers can register for the service by visiting the dedicated Claro Messenger website – http://www.ideasclaro.com.pe/claro-messenger, or by navigating to the Msngr icon in the WAP menu of their phones.

“Eighty percent of all mobile subscribers in Perú are younger than 45 years of age,” says Juan Cueva, Claro’s VAS Manager. “Claro Messenger is ideal for our market because younger users tend to embrace alternative ways of communicating with each other, and our Claro-branded instant messaging community does exactly that”.

Carsten Brinkschulte, CEO of Synchronica, added: “With a high prepaid base and low Smartphone penetration, Perú is exactly the type of market that Synchronica thinks of when we develop our award-winning products. Claro Perú is now the fifth subsidiary of América Móvil to launch our ‘churn busting’ Claro Messenger solution, and we’re certain that it will prove to be a highly popular addition to their value added services portfolio.”
