(Almost) Distraction free driving with iZUP

There are a number of different options for keeping us safe while driving with cell phones. We recently took a look at ZoomSafer and also how to use Tasker for safe driving without any phone related distractions. Illume Software has brought yet another option to the table with its product iZUP (clever name – see what the firm’s done there!) which it claims works on any phone with a GPS.

iZUP works in a very simple way. If the GPS on your phone indicates that you are travelling above a certain speed, then iZUP kicks in and blocks all phone calls, texts and emails. In this way you are completely distraction free while driving – at least as far as your phone is concerned anyway.  No one has yet come up with a way to completely silence children or other passengers while driving.

Of course, you may argue that there is not any need to bother with any of these solutions – why not just put your phone on silent when driving? That would work – if you remember to do so every time you drive and also remember to then turn the sound back on when you reach your destination. That is also not a helpful solution when you are relying on your phone for navigation purposes, as many people do.

And there we find a possible weakness with iZUP.  If you need to use your phone for navigation or some other purpose while driving then it will not be the best solution for you.  In fairness, that is also true of ZoomSafer.  You can, however, still make good use of Tasker to make your driving experience safer.

If, however, you just want to avoid all phone related distractions then it might well be worth your while to take a look at iZUP to see if it is the solution for you.
