This week at Mobile World Congress, Qualcomm announced the winners of its Augmented Reality Developer challenge. The competition which began in October 2010 challenged app developers to make creative interactive applications using Qualcomm’s AR platform.
First prize went to Paulius Liekis and Arminas Didžiokas, team from Lithuania for their celebrity inspired game. The team won $125,000 for Paparazzi, an interactive game where the player becomes a virtual paparazzo and sneaks pictures of a vain celebrity before he gets agitated and attacks the photographer. Entertaining and unfortunately, not too far off from reality.
The judges came from industry and academia and judged on creativity, technical execution and user experience. Qualcomm’s new AR platform uses computer vision technology that gives the game the appearance that the graphics are anchored to real world objects.
Other winners include games involving stuntmen and a game that allows you to become your own helicopter pilot. Click Here. to view a sample video of the winning app.
