Latin America continued to boost Spanish telecoms giant Telefónica’s (NYSE: TEF) revenues in 2010, company chairman César Alierta said during a conference call with investors.
Alierta highlighted that the region accounted for 43% of the operator’s sales last year. “Telefónica Latam continues to be the key growth driver of the group,” Alierta said.
In the region, Telefónica reached 184mn total accesses at end-2010, an increase of 9% compared with 168mn accesses at end-2009, the company said in its earnings statement.
In the fixed telephony segment, the company’s regional base totaled 24.4mn by end-year, decreasing 0.7% year-on-year.
Meanwhile, in the mobile telephony segment, TEF reached 149mn subscribers in Latin America at end-2010, climbing almost 11% compared with one year before. In the broadband segment, TEF’s clients in the region totaled 7.4mn at end-December, up 15.8% year-on-year.
