AT&T launches shopping alerts in four markets

AT&T Mobility recently announced the launch of ShopAlerts, a voluntary opt-in service that provides mobile promotions, rewards and discounts to AT&T wireless subscribers on their phones when they are in close proximity to a participating store or brand.
Subscribers who choose to participate will receive messages through multimedia message services (MMS) or text-based short message services (SMS). The service allows advertisers to target consumers to the point of sale with location-specific offers through AT&T Advanced Ad Solutions and the location-based technology platform of San Franscisco-based Placecast, which will use geo-fencing technology to provide a virtual perimeter around a retail store, event or geographic region.
The service is slated to go live in four markets: Chicago, Los Angeles, New York City and San Francisco. Initial participating advertisers include Hewlett Packard, JetBlue, SC Johnson, Kibbles ‘n Bits, Nature’s Recipe, Kmart, and the national milk mustache “got milk?” campaign.
Customers in participating markets can visit the customer portal to opt-in at www.att.com/shopalerts.
