Movers & Shakers: Facebook hires Google VP; Maxcom announces new CEO; and more

Appia, open app marketplace, announces that it has launched its global expansion plans with the hiring of three new Sales Executives in key international markets. Juan Carlos Belair will oversee sales in Latin America (LATAM), with Sid Mahajan heading up the sales team in Asia Pacific (APAC), and Neil Geary, charged with head of sales for Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA). The hires will support Appia’s new focus as a white-label app store platform for mobile operators, handset manufacturers and mobile portals. Read more here.

Maxcom Telecomunicaciones today announced that Mr. Salvador Alvarez has joined the Company as CEO, replacing Mr. William Nazaret who has been with the Company for the past two years. Mr. Alvarez will focus on continuing to develop additional product and distribution strategies. Mr. Alvarez was recentlyCEO of Medicus, prior to that he served as Managing Director of Red Legal; earlier in his career, Mr. Alvarez served as General Manager of Corporativo Corvi. Read more here.

Alexandre Hohagen, Google’s vice president of Latin America sales, has recently joined Facebook to be their VP of sales in LATAM. While at Google, Mr. Hohagen helped establish Google’s Latin American offices, served as general manager of Google Brazil, and later as VP of Google Latin America. Read more here.

DigitalGlobe, global content provider of high-resolution earth imagery solutions, has appointed Jeffrey R. Tarr as its new President and CEO, effective April 5, 2011. Tarr succeeds Jill Smith, who, in September 2010, announced her intention to leave the company. DigitalGlobe also named current DigitalGlobe Board Member General Howell M. Estes III as its new non-executive Chairman.
