Everyone seems to be winning at the Game Developer Conference is San Francisco this week, as the Moscone center becomes engulfed by a host of weird and wonderful nerds looking to mix business with playful pleasure.
The halls are flooded with them: developers of all shapes and sizes, donning bizarre fashions, 3d glasses, regular glasses, clutching at least three devices per hand as they flay around frantically trying to win a game of kinect ping pong. It’s quite wonderous to watch.
But game play aside, many developers are also leaving the show today with arms full of pricey swag – from the brand new Motorola Xoom to Google’s CR48 netbook and Samsung’s Nexus S. Of course, you have to be a paying developer to get your hands on any of these techy tidbits, but with tickets starting from just $400, that’s not a bad deal – especially considering the Xoom is retailing at a pricey $800.
Of course, it’s not just as easy as showing up, ticket clutched in sweaty hand, either. No, you would also have to attend the specific device related workshops and sessions – proving that while you may get a free soggy sandwich lunch at GDC, you’ll have to sing for your supper in terms of hardware.
