BlackBerry maker Research In Motion Ltd. has struck a deal with 7digital Music Store to have the service natively pre-installed on the BlackBerry PlayBook at launch in the United States and Canada with worldwide launch soon after that.
British-based 7digital, RIM’s answer to iTunes, purports to have a catalogue of over 13 million high quality (320 kbps) MP3s, and allows users to preview tracks before buying them.
The service also has a recommendation engine which it says can help users discover new music they might like – much like Apple Inc.’s Genius service.
7digital’s CEO, Ben Drury said he was “really excited to be working with RIM,” and noted that his firm currently held “the largest international footprint of any MP3 digital music seller.”
The BlackBerry PlayBook tablet running the 7digital Music Store application will be previewed this week at the South by South West conference in Austin, Texas. We’ll go and check it out and keep you posted.
