According to a report by analytics firm comScore, Internet users in Southeast Asia rely more on Google than the rest of the world. In addition, out of the top 15 countries with the highest Facebook penetration, three are from Southeast Asia, including the Philippines, which ranks first.
The countries surveyed in this study include Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, the Philippines, Hong Kong and Singapore. Except for Hong Kong (at which Yahoo still has a strong presence), Google was used for at least 69 percent of all searches in these countries. This goes up to a whopping 93 percent in Vietnam. Putting this in perspective, the search giant’s global share is 67 percent.
As for Facebook, the Philippines, Malaysia and Indonesia came in first, fifth and eighth for usage among Internet users. Even though these countries do not have as high an Internet penetration rate as other developed nations such as Finland and the United Kingdom, those who do have access are more likely to be Facebook users.
