Angry Birds flies towards one billion downloads

You can’t talk about mobile gaming without talking about Angry Birds, which is why Peter Vesterbacka, Mighty Eagle of Rovio Mobile joined RCR Wireless on an exclusive panel this afternoon in the news desk at the Alcatel-Lucent suite at SXSW. Vesterbacka confided in RCR about the firm’s plans to fly towards the one billion download mark, a lofty goal that seems somewhat feasible given the company’s recent success.

Joining Vesterbacka was Ville Vesterinen, CEO of Grey Areas, another Finnish company and creator of Shadow Cities, a mobile game that allows users to blend location gaming, social, and mobile in a magical mix proving so popular, it even toppled Angry Birds from its perch at number one spot in the Finnish App store for some time.

Talking 3D, location-based apps, movies, merchandising, and trends in gaming, the panelists sounded off on all things mobile today at day two of SXSW here in Austin, Texas.
