Jobs in the computer and electronics products sector continued to trend upward in February, according to information released by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Positions in the telecommunications space continued to trend downward year over year.

In the semiconductor sub-sector, 1,400 jobs were added in February, for a total of 379,200 positions. Year to year, 13,900 jobs have been added since February 2010.
The telecommunications space has not fared as well. In the wireless sub-sector, the labor bureau counted 170,900 positions in January, down 4,300 jobs from a year. Some sub-sector statistics are reported a month behind overall statistics. The wired telecommunications sub-sector lost nearly 3,500 jobs from January 2010 to January 2011. The labor bureau counted 874,900 positions in telecommunications in February.
Overall, nonfarm payroll employment increased by 192,000 in February, and the unemployment rate was little changed at 8.9%, the labor bureau said. Job gains occurred in manufacturing, construction, professional and business services, health care, and transportation and warehousing.
