Taipei, March 21 (CNA) Taiwan Mobile Co., the country’s second-largest telecom operator, launched high-definition (HD) mobile games by U.S. video game producer Electronic Arts Inc. (EA) Monday to become a major player in the rapidly growing market.
Eight HD games, including the popular “The Sims3 HD” role-playing game, went on sale that day for Android smartphones, priced at between NT$60 (US$2.03) and NT$90, said Jeff Ku, deputy chief operating officer of Taiwan Mobile’s consumer business group.
“Our revenue from the mobile game market has been growing at a moderate pace since Apple Inc.’s App Store led the trend of free game downloading, ” Ku said at a ceremony to launch the new service. “But we have also found that smartphone users have become more willing to pay for high-quality mobile games.”
