@ CTIA: Samsung refreshes Galaxy Tab 10.1, unveils Galaxy Tab 8.9

ORLANDO, Fla. — Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. announced two new tablets in its Galaxy Tab lineup, rounding out its portfolio with the Galaxy Tab 8.9 and Galaxy Tab 10.1.
The company previously announced the Galaxy Tab 10.1 at Mobile World Congress last month, but now that Apple Inc. has released the iPad 2, the company has refreshed the device before launch.
The pair of new tablets are just 8.6 millimeters thin, making them just slightly thinner than the iPad 2.
Samsung is also introducing a new version of its customized user interface, TouchWiz, with the tablets. TouchWiz includes a live panel that users can customize on their home screen to display whatever content they want most readily available. It also features an application tray along the bottom that gives users access to some of the most commonly used apps.
The new Galaxy Tabs are packed with features that were already announced on the Galaxy Tab 10.1, including a 3-megapixel rear-facing camera and a front-facing 2-megapixel camera, a dual-core processor, 1080p HD video and WXGA (1,280×800) touch screens. The latest Galaxy Tabs will support HSPA+ and Samsung said it plans to launch LTE and WiMAX versions later this year.
Finally, the Galaxy Tabs will ship with all of the enterprise-class features, tools and security protocols that Samsung announced at Mobile World Congress.
“The Galaxy Tabs are ready for business. They will be the most enterprise-ready Android tablets on the market,” said Nick DiCarlo, VP of product planning at Samsung.
The Galaxy Tab 10.1 will be available on June 8 and the Galaxy Tab 8.9 will begin shipping early this summer. A Wi-Fi-only versions of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 will cost $499 with 16GB of memory and $599 with 32GB of memory. The Galaxy Tab 8.9 will cost $469 and $569 with the same storage options.
