eBay to boost Austin job growth by 1,000 workers

eBay LogoAUSTIN, Texas-The City of Austin announced that eBay Inc. would increase its Austin office by 1,000 jobs during the next 10 years if city representatives approve an economic incentive proposal from the city.

Upon final approval by the city council, the estimated $1.2 million grant proposal would grow the eBay Austin staff from 250 to 1,250 employees by Dec. 31, 2020, with the new workforce boasting an impressive average salary of $122,576 a year through the projected 10-year time span. The performance-based grant proposal is contingent on hiring and retention measures by eBay and a required total investment by the company of $4.94 million in the Austin offices by New Year’s Eve of 2020.

Many of the jobs would be in computer engineering and managerial staff. The City of Austin would reward contract compliance by eBay incrementally through the decade time period with an incentive cap awarded to eBay for each year. The company was founded in 1995 and is headquartered in San Jose, Calif., with more than 17,000 employees worldwide.

Council members plan to review the proposal at a presentation during a regularly scheduled meeting at 10 a.m. on April 7 at Austin City Hall, located at 301 W. 2nd Street. The measure will likely be voted on at a specially called council meeting also at City Hall, scheduled for April 12. Public input and comment is also being accepted online here.
