Japanese carrier NTT DoCoMo Inc. released some stats about its network’s restoration following the massive earthquake which hit the country last month.
“Out of the 307 base stations scheduled initially to be restored by May (excluding 68Â within the restricted 30-kilometer zone around the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Plant), 70Â have been restored,” says the firm.
In addition, of the remaining 59 base stations initially not expected to be restored until May due to difficult-to-access locations in remote mountain areas, within tunnels, etc., 15 have been restored. Of the 68 located within the 30-kilometer zone, 10 have been restored.
NTT DoCoMo also reported that as of April 4 it was taking the following measures to provide telecommunication access:
– Loan of satellite mobile phones (890 handsets)
– Loan of mobile phones (1,893 handsets)
– Loan of tablet devices (297 devices)
– Deployment of mobile base station vehicles (30 vehicles)
– Deployment of mobile power-supply vehicles (30 vehicles)
– Deployment of mobile power generators (400 generators)
– Installation of free mobile-phone charging stations (320 locations)
The firm also said that its message board service, set up immediately after the earthquake, had been accessed approx. 3,893,888 times as of 12:00 a.m. on April 4 (JST).
