Virgin Media to use Motricity content-delivery solution

Motricity Inc. (MOTR) won a contract from Virgin Media Inc. (VMED), to use Motricity’s MobileCast solution to support Virgin smartphone users. The service is designed to help Virgin Media mobile users easier access content, as well as allow users to manage their content more easily.
“Virgin Media is always pushing the envelope on media content, particularly in the U.K.,” said Motricity CEO Ryan Wuerch. MobileCast is an intelligent layer that sits on top of the smartphone operating system to deliver rich media content that is relevant to the end user. “It’s a DNA imprint of who you are.” Because MobileCast knows what the end user wants, it continues to connect to the end user by serving up relevant content. Most people usually download most of their applications in the first 30 days after they get the device, Wuerch said. Motricity’s mCore platform allows operators to continue to connect to subscribers. “This is a precursor to what we believe mobile operators can use to have continual engagement” with end users, Wuerch said.
Along with being a mobile virtual network operator in the United Kingdom, Virgin Media offers broadband, TV and home phone services. “Our mobile customers are doing more with their phones, watching great TV from Virgin Media Player, enjoying music, videos and games and managing their customer accounts whilst on the move. MobileCast helps us deliver a fantastic user experience and we’ll continue to bring market-leading mobile services to all of our customers,” Graeme Oxby, executive director of mobile and home phone at Virgin Media, said in a prepared statement.
MobileCast works on smartphones running operating systems from Apple Inc., Google Inc., Microsoft Corp. and Research In Motion Ltd. MobileCast also allows Virgin Media to offer mobile marketers faster time to market when developing marketing campaigns, as well as better tracking and results reporting for advertisers.
