SAF Tehnika extends broadband to rural Canada

Latvian-based microwave manufacturer SAF Tehnika JSC announced a deal to deploy 200 CFIP Lumina links in rural Canadian areas to extend broadband coverage.
Partnering with SAF is Crossover Distribution.com Corp., a value-added distributor of wireless broadband and in-building cellular technologies based in Mississauga, Ontario, in contract with service provider Manitoba NetSet Ltd. to deploy a gigabith Ethernet network in Manitoba.
Manitoba NetSet was awarded funding from Industry Canada. The program has allocated $225 million through a three-year period to qualified service providers to increase fixed wireless broadband coverage to under-serviced areas and regions with no service to stimulate business, connect to institutions and government and bring people together.
The total of all projects through Canada’s broadband coverage program is expected to bring high-speed Internet access to 169,000 households without access or underserved by high-speed Internet.
The government said high-speed Internet in these areas will help improve access to tele-health, business opportunities and distance education.
