Scoutmob adds mobile coupon deals to Austin

Location-based coupon dealer Scoutmob is now deep in the heart of Texas. The Atlanta-based company announced the addition of Austin to its listing of local mobile deal services along with nine other cities: Dallas, Boston, Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles, Nashville, Portland, Seattle and Washington D.C.
The company gives users the choice to subscribe via e-mail or through its free app, which sends deals to Apple Inc. iPhones and devices that use Google Inc.’s Android platform. Users can only redeem a coupon when they are at the location where the deal is being offered, which is confirmed by using GPS technologies in a user’s smartphone. The user only needs to load the image of the deal on the phone and show it to the vendor to enjoy the perks.
Instead of deals from Groupon or Living Social, Scoutmob’s deals are free and merchants pay for the service when the coupon is redeemed at their businesses. Deals on Scoutmob move fast and allow users only a limited time to claim them, but a longer amount of time to actually use the deals, which is often several days.
The Scoutmob app allows access to sort deals by how recent they are, how close in proximity they appear, and a “hurry-you-fool-it’s-about-to-expire” function. Vendors also offer extra incentives when a user makes a return visit through “return perks.”
Scoutmob launched its website last year in New York, San Francisco and Atlanta and recently capped a $1.5 million round of VC funding from Atlantic Ventures to expand across the United States and develop technology.
Other similar services to land in Austin include DealGator, My Daily Deals, Localiter L.L.C., GivEngine Inc., Moolala Inc., MorgansDeals and others.
