In a move which could prove rather disruptive to landline providers, VoIP firm Vonage Holdings Corp. (NYSE: VG) has announced this it’s launching a new calling plan which includes unlimited calls from 60 countries to 80, including unlimited calling to mobile phones in 42 countries.
The new World Premium Unlimited calling plan costs $55 a month, without taxes and fees, and uses broadband to route calls through to scores of countries including Brazil, Costa Rica, Japan, Australia, France, Spain and the UK for the same flat rate.
“Customers who use World Premium Unlimited to call as little as one hour a week to mobile phones in countries like Mexico and the UK will save over $400 a year versus the best pay per minute rates from major phone companies,” said Mike Tempora, senior vice president of product management for Vonage.
Tempora said that many who frequently have to place international calls to mobiles end up becoming rather frustrated by the “huge premiums they pay to their phone company.”
This may well hold true for those with family and close friends living abroad, but to add extra incentive to the package, Vonage is also including unlimited readable voicemail transcriptions sent via text and email, Caller ID, Call Waiting, Anonymous Call Block, 3-Way-Calling, free Vonage-to-Vonage calls and 411.
The firm is also allowing users the ability to take their Vonage adapter anywhere there’s a high-speed Internet connection, meaning they can keep their phone number and calling benefits anywhere they are in the world.
