Ericsson (ERIC) will acquire Telenor Connexion’s machine-to-machine technology platform from the Telenor Group (OG8C) as the telecom network vendor moves into the space. The deal includes the technology platform and 11 employees.
Telenor Connexion also becomes the first customer on Ericsson’s Device Connection Platform, a service that enables telecom operators to offer tailored M2M services for enteriprise customers. Financial details were not announced.
“Telenor Connexion’s M2M technology platform complements our service and will improve our offering, adding the know-how of the pioneers in this area,” said Magnus Furustam, VP, Head of Core & IMS, at Ericsson. “Our ambition is to grow the M2M market and offer our customers a solution that they can quickly use on the market for a low initial investment.”
Ericsson’s Device Connection Platform uses a software as a service (SAAS) business model, which enables operators to sell the service to customers without investing a lot of financial and other resources in the technology.
