Hollywood is rather adept at telling compelling stories, and the latest plot to come out of the LA studios concerns Apple’s third generation tablet, already in the advanced planning stages and very much 3D, we’re told.
“The fact that the iPad 3 is 3D is a dead cert,” one Hollywood insider close to the big movie studios told RCR, adding that the screen would be the real magic. She went on to say that the big film studios were currently running around like blue arsed flies trying to gear up to release plenty of 3D content in time for Apple’s next launch.
Meanwhile, in case some doubt Hollywood’s gossip as mere fairy tales, the story has been given extra credence by Apple manufacturer Foxconn, over in Taiwan.
Known to be leakier than a holey bucket, Foxconn – or Hon Hai manufacturing as it’s known in Taiwan – has already spilled the 3D iPad beans to several of our close industry sources.
Of course, the fact Apple is eyeing up a 3D tablet option is hardly surprising, with most of its competitors thinking the exact same thing. Even typically Johnny-come-lately RIM is said to be mulling a 3D version for its next PlayBook tablet, which should finally give The Astonishing Tribe (TAT) something substantial to work on.
The current version of the PlayBook also supports 3D video, but has to be hooked up to a 3D enabled TV screen via HDMI for it to work – with glasses. That all sounds rather 1990 to us, so we’re hoping both RIM and Apple look to some of the glasses-less 3D screen manufacturers out there and come up with something to really wow us.
After all, no one likes a good plot falling flat.
