ZTE | May 4, 2011 | Press Release

Movistar to exclusively sell new tablet device from May in Spain

  • ZTE, the world’s fourth largest mobile phone maker, is aiming to conquer the Spanish market with a high specification tablet which will be available via Telefónica, whose objective is to popularise tablet use among all its customers.
  • The device, which runs on the Android™ 2.2 operating system, offers a host of multimedia features at an unbeatable price (between 0 and 19 euros for individuals with contract). This makes it appealing to a wide range of customers.
  • The new tablet includes an Android application specifically designed for the Mutua Madrid Open which provides information on the players, statistics and a match schedule for the tournament in real time.

  • ZTE will install more than 150 Light Pro tablets in VIP boxes at the tournament so that guests can access information on the tournament and savour the experience of using the equipment.

04 May 2011, Shenzhen – ZTE Corporation (“ZTE”) (H share stock code: 0763.HK / A share stock code: 000063.SZ), a publicly-listed global provider of telecommunications equipment and network solutions, today announced Telefónica and ZTE unveiled the new Light Pro tablet which combines Wi-Fi and 3G connectivity with impressive multimedia capabilities at an appealing price. Movistar will sell the Light Pro tablets exclusively in Spain from May for between 0 and 19 euros for individuals and 0 and 119 euros for businesses, with contract, making modern tablet computing available to all its consumer and business customers.

In launching this product, ZTE is adding a high-end product to Telefónica’s range which is of significant strategic value. The ZTE Light Pro, a 7-inch tablet which runs on the Android 2.2 (Froyo) operating system, is the first of a series of high-quality products at competitive prices with which Movistar is aiming to popularise tablet use and raise awareness of the possibilities they offer for all kinds of applications.

Both new customers and those migrating from other companies and switching from prepaid to contract will be able to acquire the new tablet for € 0 by signing up to an Internet Maxi flat-rate plan (€49 /month) or for €19 with the Internet Plus flat-rate plan (€39/month). Business customers will pay between 0 and 119 euros depending on the type of data and voice contract for which they sign up.

Thanks to the operator’s points-based loyalty programme, anyone who is already a Movistar customer will be able to acquire the tablet on very advantageous terms depending on points accumulated and plan type.

ZTE, technological partner of the Mutua Madrid Open, an ATP World Tour Masters 1000 event, has incorporated into the device an application specifically developed for this tournament which provides official statistics, player information and match schedules in real time. This means that tennis fans and sports information professionals will have an ally in the new Light Pro, which can supply information instantaneously and keep them up to date with tournament news.

The launch gives tablets a prominent position in Telefónica’s portfolio and underlines the pivotal role they will play over the coming years in the online devices market, a sector whose rapid growth is being driven by the surge in new services and technologies that can enhance users’ lives and boost business productivity.

The Light Pro tablet boasts a sophisticated design and delivers optimum user experience as a compact, easy-to-use device with a 7-inch HVGA touch screen, permitting continuous web browsing and allowing a large number of widgets and apps to be accessed from the display

The ZTE Light Pro offers exciting multimedia features and a plethora of entertainment options thanks to more than 150,000 Android apps. It also has a 3 megapixel camera, and built-in GPS means it can also be used as a navigation device.

Users will satisfy all their needs in terms of entertainment and continuous connectivity to social networks as the tablet comes with YouTube, Facebook and Twitter preloaded and has the most popular Google™ applications such as YouTube™, Gmail™ and Google Maps™ installed by default. All this can be enjoyed at any time thanks to the connectivity provided by Wi-Fi and the tablet’s 3G connection.

The Light Pro can be synchronised with a PC using the USB cable included in order to exchange emails and update calendars and tasks. Users can also share photos, songs, videos and other files with their friends via Bluetooth®.
